Dimensions of Culture
Students are faced with the inspiring challenge of studying and working with people from other cultures, working with groups from other countries, and effectively communicating / interacting with people that have different views from their own. As educators, it is essential that we prepare these students with tools and insights into other countries / cultures. By taking a glimpse into these countries around the globe, these students can be better prepared to communicate more effectively with people from difference cultures. Developing an improved cross-cultural communication, the students will improve their knowledge of other countries / cultures and gain a better ability to interact more effectively with people from different countries.
Although all of Hofstede’s six dimensions were reviewed, this study utilized Indulgence versus Restraint (IND) as a specific background for the study which dealt with natural drives from indulgent to restraint (Hofstede, Hofstede, & Minkov, 2010). |
